Considered
Shrub roses by the American Rose Society (ARS)
, the English Roses were bred to marry the
Old Garden Rose
fragrance and bloom form to the remontant (reblooming) habit of most modern roses. This wonderfully diverse group has led many a gardener to discover and appreciate
Old Garden Roses
as well as other classes of modern roses... and in the process, have forever changed the way we garden.
Many English Roses can also be trained as small climbers, "pegged down" or trained onto pillars.
